The JUMBO Seafood restaurant in Shanghai, China, designed by The ED Design Group Pte Ltd, is a stunning example of a luxurious modern dining experience in a Chinese restaurant. The design not only aims to provide an exceptional dining experience but also to introduce the essence of Singapore to the international F&B industry. With a total area of 502 square meters, the restaurant can accommodate 114 guests in the general dining area and 62 in their seven VIP rooms.
The inspiration for the design came from the orchid, the national flower of Singapore. Orchids are celebrated for their beauty and are considered a symbol of nobility and refinement in Chinese culture. The design team wanted to bring this essence of Singapore into the restaurant, creating a unique and elegant atmosphere. As visitors enter the restaurant, they are greeted by a structurally elegant organic feature ceiling light that leads them through a corridor designed like a gallery. The corridor displays artworks and wine selections, building a sense of curiosity and anticipation before reaching the main dining area.
The design of the main dining area blends modern furnishings with traditional elements. Bronze metal plates, contemporary chandeliers, and Chinese patterns create a harmonious fusion of old and new. Natural materials such as light travertine for the walls, nero marquina marble, and natural stone add a touch of luxury and sophistication. The use of organic shapes in the floor and ceiling design creates a welcoming environment, while soft furnishings such as custom carpet flooring, printed fabric walls, and curtains add warmth and comfort.
The functionality of the design was carefully considered to enhance the dining experience. Different seating arrangements and settings provide guests with more choices and break the monotony. The VIP rooms feature collapsible dividers, allowing them to accommodate both small and large parties. The design also prioritizes natural light, with glass panels replacing partition walls in the VIP rooms located along the windows. This ensures that guests can enjoy the beautiful views while dining.
The realization of the design required a combination of craftsmanship and technology. Precision and excellent workmanship were crucial during the construction stage, especially when working with the metal plates to create the corridor's organic-shaped light, one of the most important design features. The result is a visually stunning and functional space that embodies the essence of Singapore and provides a luxurious dining experience.
