Barn on the River

Guesthouse with swimming pools

Inspiring images: old barns made of stone; forest stream running through the bushes; summer kitchens for open-air cooking; apiaries and 100-foot high pines by the river. Childhood memories form the interaction between human-beings, home and nature.

The "Barn on the River" project, designed by Dmitry Pozarenko, is a unique and innovative guesthouse that combines traditional architecture with modern design elements. The main inspiration for this design comes from childhood memories and the connection between humans, home, and nature.

What sets this design apart is the way it brings the traditional archetype of a house to the simplicity of its forms. The cedar shingle roof and green schist walls blend the building seamlessly into the surrounding grass and bushes of the man-made landscape. Inside, the luxurious granite floors and mahogany walls add an ecological focus to the project. Through the glass walls, the rocky riverside becomes a captivating view, creating a strong connection between the interior and the natural landscape outside.

The construction of the "Barn on the River" guesthouse utilizes innovative technology and materials. The trusses of the ridgy roof and the bearing pads are made of laminated beams, providing structural strength and stability. The walls are constructed with dark-green schist and mortar, giving the building a unique and natural appearance. The roof is shingled with larch, adding to the overall aesthetic appeal of the design. Inside, the pool deck is reveted with Juparana Tiger granite, creating the illusion of a pool deck carved out of a cliff. The open swimming pool is made of polished stainless steel, and the pool edge is lowered and planted with mountain pines, creating a serene and natural atmosphere.

The "Barn on the River" guesthouse has a residential area of approximately 300 sq.m. It features a spa area that provides complete privacy for the housing areas. The main house is located 20 meters away from the guest house porch, with the spa area situated between the two. This layout ensures equal accessibility for both owners and guests, while also avoiding any interference between the two groups. The design concept revolves around the idea of landscape humility, respecting the environment and materials without imposing any forced harmony.

The "Barn on the River" project was started in May 2013 and completed in September 2015. It is located in the village of Kadnikovo, in the Ural region of Russia. The design was based on extensive research and exploration of the Ural landscape, drawing inspiration from old barns, larch shingles, and granite yards. The result is a harmonious blend of traditional and modern elements that create a unique and inviting space.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award, winning the Silver in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2016. The "Barn on the River" guesthouse showcases outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill, creating a space that evokes positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
