Steel and Comfort: A Unique Blend of Artistic Taste and Form Beauty

Robin Wang's Award-Winning Interior Design Project

Robin Wang's "Steel and Comfort" is a unique interior design project that combines different cultural symbols and design methods to create a mix and match designed space. This project, located in the heart of Beijing, was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018.

Robin Wang's inspiration for this project came from the movie "The Great Gatsby" and "Iron Man". The design is aimed at the leisure class, a group of people who are more likely to be thinkers, creators, and explorers. These individuals value quality life and have an ambitious vision of aesthetics. The design of the villa reflects this vision, offering a luxurious space for the business elite.

The villa is unique in its design. It uses natural materials, texture color, and agile lines to form a contracted space with artistic taste and form beauty. The transformation of the underground space breaks the inherent spatial structure model, removes the heavy frame, and uses industrial and classical aesthetics to interpret the space. The sub-curved sofa furnishings and smallpox echoes make the space more open and convenient.

The design process involved several technical specifications. The attic was opened up to turn it into a duplex cloakroom, inspired by the cloak-hat gallery in "The Great Gatsby". The narrow staircase was removed and the space of the attic was opened up to improve the interior light. A mirror was set at the end of the 5.2-meter cloakroom to double the scope of the mirror.

The project faced several design challenges. The main challenge was to make the style of the private villa unique. This was achieved through innovation in the whole layout and in the ornamental furnishings. The design also required a deep understanding of the life of the leisure class and a combination of industrial aesthetics, classical aesthetics, and modern aesthetics to present an elegant, stylish space experience.

The "Steel and Comfort" project started in December 2015 and was completed in December 2016 in Beijing. The project was a collaboration between Robin Wang and Architect HSZ, with a design area of 650 square meters. The project was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
