Hyatt Place Luoyang: A Modern Oasis in the Historic City

Celebrating Luoyang's Heritage with Contemporary Design

Located in the heart of Luoyang, the Hyatt Place Luoyang hotel seamlessly blends the city's rich history with sleek, sophisticated design. Designed by Honglei Liu of BLVD, this urban business hotel offers a unique experience that combines modern aesthetics with local heritage.

The inspiration for the design of Hyatt Place Luoyang comes from the city's historical culture. Honglei Liu drew inspiration from iconic landmarks such as the Longmen Grottoes, historical towers, and ancient empire costumes. These impressions of Luoyang served as the foundation for the interior color tones, textures, and artwork selections. The result is a design that re-contextualizes the city's heritage into a contemporary setting, creating a new local landmark.

What sets Hyatt Place Luoyang apart is its ability to seamlessly integrate the city's history with a sleek, sophisticated atmosphere. The design celebrates the convergence of functional spaces and natural light in the sky lobby, creating a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. The use of stones, tiles, metal, textured glass, and wood creates an earthy architectural foundation, while subtle textures and sculptural forms add depth and interest. Screen elements maintain transparency and connection between spaces, sparking curiosity in guests.

The lobby of Hyatt Place Luoyang welcomes guests with an open and authentic atmosphere. A multi-purpose bar along the wall serves as a bar, a service counter, and a reception desk, promoting socialization between guests. Comfy lounge sofas, a combination of tables and chairs, colorful carpets, playful lighting fixtures, and floor-to-ceiling artworks complete the public area, creating a vibrant and inviting space for guests to relax and socialize.

The design of Hyatt Place Luoyang prioritizes functionality and efficiency. The public areas are located on one floor, facilitating smooth operations and allowing guests to easily move between different activity zones. The hotel becomes a large living room, offering guests a variety of activities such as reading, dining, socializing, meetings, and work.

In terms of materials, the design team selected vinyl wall coverings, paints, porcelain tiles, wood, laminates, metals, and glass for wall and floor finishes. These materials not only enhance the maintenance efficiency but also align with the Hyatt Place brand's core values. Stone flooring was chosen for the sky lobby reception area to cater to the preferences of local guests. The furniture, mainly made of wood and fabrics, creates a cozy and comfortable atmosphere.

Hyatt Place Luoyang spans 3200 square meters for public areas and 13500 square meters for guest room areas. The hotel features a total of 250 room keys, with 248 typical guest rooms and 2 suites. The public areas include a receiving lobby on the ground floor, a sky lobby on the 6th floor, a lobby lounge, an all-day dining restaurant, and a conference center. Additional amenities such as a swimming pool, gym, and boardroom are located on the 7th floor.

The design of Hyatt Place Luoyang was a result of extensive research and experimentation. The goal was to develop an effective interior design approach that would resonate with the Chinese market while maintaining the DNA of the Hyatt Place brand. The success of this project demonstrates how local heritage can be seamlessly integrated into a modern hotel design, setting a new standard for similar projects in China.

Completed in May 2016, the design of Hyatt Place Luoyang took over two years to realize. The hotel stands as a testament to the successful fusion of contemporary design and local heritage, creating a new landmark in Luoyang.

Hyatt Place Luoyang has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2017 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
