Yu's Residence: A Fusion of Classical and Contemporary Design

Creating a Luxurious and Culturally Diverse Living Space

The Yu's Residence, designed by UJ Design Studio, is a stunning example of how contemporary techniques can be used to create a classical living space. With a focus on luxury culture and a mixed cultural aesthetic, this residential project showcases the perfect balance between tradition and modernity.

The first challenge for the design team was to find a balance that would suit the different personalities of the Yu family members. With their extensive overseas living experience, it was important to create a space that would reflect a blend of cultures. The result is a harmonious fusion of classical and contemporary elements that exude elegance and sophistication.

One of the unique features of the Yu's Residence is the use of thin titanium-coated stainless steel strips. These strips are placed in concave areas, creating a subtle shimmering effect in the shadows. As the sunlight changes throughout the day, the materials showcase various captivating effects, adding a touch of magic to the space.

The design team also took inspiration from oriental culture, specifically fengshui principles. In the entrance, a cabinet is strategically placed to deflect negative energy. By disconnecting the cabinet from the wall, the sightline is extended from the entrance to the living room. A gray mirror on the wall reflects the scenery outside the living room's window, allowing sunlight to stream inside and creating a sense of openness. Mirrors are used throughout the space to enlarge the visual perception of the rooms, making them appear more spacious.

The ceiling design further enhances the sense of space and defines the limits of each area. By incorporating these design elements, the Yu's Residence achieves a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics.

Throughout the design process, the UJ Design Studio actively collaborated with the clients, ensuring their thoughts and ideas were incorporated into the final design. This collaborative approach resulted in a space that truly reflects the personality and lifestyle of the Yu family.

The Yu's Residence project began in December 2018 and was completed in December 2019 in Taipei. The design team conducted extensive research to combine classical and modern styles, drawing inspiration from various sources. The placement of the Moooi Smoke Chair in the entrance, for example, symbolizes the main concept of the project - the fusion of classical and contemporary elements.

The Yu's Residence has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award recognizes designs that showcase creativity, resourcefulness, and technical excellence, contributing to the improvement of quality of life.

With its unique blend of classical and contemporary design, the Yu's Residence stands as a testament to the UJ Design Studio's commitment to creating luxurious and culturally diverse living spaces. This project exemplifies the studio's ability to seamlessly integrate different design elements and create a harmonious environment that is both visually stunning and functional.
