The electric motorcycle concept, known as Concept #3, designed by Stefan Tóth, is a unique and innovative two-wheeled vehicle for urban, commuter, and short-distance use. It aims to provide a sustainable solution by incorporating a switchable battery and a chain of charging stations with renewable energy sources.
One of the standout features of this design is the transparent dashboard, which allows riders to see the road through it, enhancing the overall riding experience. Additionally, the upper part of the motorcycle includes a storage space for luggage, making it practical for everyday usage.
The chassis and swingarm of the motorcycle are made from welded steel-tubes, providing a sturdy and reliable structure. The electric motor is mounted directly on the swingarm, with the force transmitted to the rear wheel through a chain. This design choice allows the motor to work as a generator while braking and eliminates the need for frequent chain maintenance.
The motorcycle also features translucent brake fluid reservoirs that serve as front turn indicators, adding a touch of style and functionality to the design.
With overall dimensions of 1977 x 860 x 1278 mm, a wheelbase of 1328 mm, and battery unit dimensions of 580 x 360 x 200 mm, the Concept #3 electric motorcycle offers a compact and efficient design.
Operating the motorcycle is similar to conventional riding, with brake levers on the handlebars replacing the clutch lever and shift pedal. Direct charging is done via a charger plug located on top of the luggage housing. For battery switch, the motorcycle needs to be fixed in a stand position. The battery connectors in the luggage area are released, allowing the right side frame to be unlocked and opened. This action pulls out the battery to the right side, making way for a new battery to be inserted. Once the new battery is in place, it needs to be connected to the motorcycle wiring in the luggage area.
The Concept #3 electric motorcycle was designed and realized in Slovakia between 2011 and 2015. Throughout the design process, Stefan Tóth faced various challenges, including finding the optimal arrangement of functional parts and striking the right balance between traditional and futuristic aesthetics.
This innovative design has been recognized with the Iron A' Design Award in the Vehicle, Mobility, and Transportation Design category. The award acknowledges the well-designed, practical, and innovative nature of the Concept #3 electric motorcycle, which meets professional and industrial requirements while contributing to a better world.
