Lobby Stretched: A Warm and Innovative Residential House Design

An Extension of the Entrance

Inspired by the concept of a lobby, JD YIN has created Lobby Stretched, a unique residential house design that redefines the traditional entrance space. This innovative design aims to nurture a sense of community and provide a versatile area for various activities.

The Lobby Stretched is not just a typical entrance; it is a space that goes beyond conventional expectations. It serves as an extension of the entrance, becoming the center of the home where people can gather, socialize, and engage in various activities. It is a place where one can cook, party, play, and exchange ideas, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere for all who come and go.

What sets Lobby Stretched apart is its intention to foster a connection between the housing and its occupants. JD YIN emphasizes the importance of rhythm, dialogue, openness, boundaries, staggering, and floating in this design. It goes beyond mere form and function, aiming to capture the essence of life and the sense of presence within a home.

The realization of Lobby Stretched incorporates a combination of materials such as marble, oak, metal, paint, and wood blinds. These elements come together to create a visually stunning and functional space that reflects the designer's vision.

With a site area of 198 sq.m, Lobby Stretched offers a unique living experience that breaks away from traditional spatial restrictions. It blurs the boundaries between public and private areas, allowing for a seamless flow of activities. The space outside the bedrooms is considered as a whole, enabling reception, chatting, cooking, cleaning, and playing to naturally transition within the architectural forms.

JD YIN's Lobby Stretched design challenges the conventional spatial planning by introducing a rotatable screen as the focal point upon entering. This leads to a lengthwise axis that extends to a long dining table, creating a sense of continuity. Another axis starts from a piano, dividing the space into a semi-open area for reading and watching movies, as well as a designated play area for children. The interior space remains private, providing a sanctuary within the home.

The Lobby Stretched design project was completed in November 2015 at 7F., No.88, Sec. 2, Chongqing N. Rd., Taipei City, Taiwan (R.O.C.). It represents a creative and technical achievement in constructing a space that reflects the owner's meaning of life while satisfying functional needs.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2016. The award acknowledges Lobby Stretched as an outstanding and creatively ingenious design that combines art, science, design, and technology. It contributes to improving the quality of life and making the world a better place.
