Campus in Kecskemet, Hungary

Innovative Design Inspired by the Capricorn Constellation

This Campus is an innovative and technologically advanced project designed by Zoltan Madosfalvi & Ördög Alíz. The inspiration behind this design is the Capricorn constellation, which is the sign of the city of Kecskemet. The buildings are arranged around the constellation, with the tower as the final "star" offering a panoramic view of the city and the constellation.

This Campus stands out with its modern organic form and unique features. The buildings incorporate a special blind system that is connected to an intelligent electric system. This allows the facade of the buildings to constantly change based on the position of the sun, creating a dynamic and visually appealing environment. Additionally, the campus preserves the existing park with 50-year-old trees, ensuring a livable and green space for students and visitors.

The realization of this design involved strategically placing the buildings around the Capricorn constellation to create a cohesive and functional layout. The main square, located in the middle of the campus, serves as a versatile space for education, concerts, and other events. It is designed to be separate from the main road and outside areas, providing a safe and dedicated area for various activities. The design also prioritized the preservation of the existing trees, which add to the beauty and character of the campus.

The campus spans across 5 hectares of land, with the buildings and bridges covering a total area of 40,000 square meters. The foundation of the buildings utilizes a pile base, incorporating an energy pile system for geothermal heating. This sustainable approach to heating ensures energy efficiency and reduces the environmental impact of the campus. The masterplan of the campus focuses on open education, incorporating new educational technologies and creating open spaces that integrate with the city.

The campus features six buildings, including an education center, administrative buildings, two dormitories, a multifunctional building, and a library. The design aims to create a "city within a city" atmosphere, where students and people from the city can come together to live, learn, and enjoy cultural and recreational activities. The campus is designed to be open and accessible, fostering integration and collaboration between the university and the surrounding community.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2016. The award acknowledges the outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill demonstrated in this design. The Campus in Kecskemet, Hungary, showcases excellence in design and evokes positive emotions, amazement, and wonder.
