Yijian Architects Transform Abandoned Hospital into Modern Care Facility

The 12th Mine Hospital, once a bustling healthcare facility for coal miners, faced obsolescence as the local mining industry declined. Recognizing the city's demographic shift towards an aging population, the decision to repurpose the hospital into a nursing center was both timely and necessary. Yijian Architects were tasked with this ambitious project, aiming to infuse new life into the old structure while honoring its historical significance.

Yijian Architects' innovative approach to the hospital's renewal was inspired by its verdant surroundings. The design strategy focused on harmonizing the building with the adjacent park, enhancing the site's openness and accessibility. The architects opted to preserve the original building's layout, updating its facade to reflect a modern aesthetic that pays homage to its past. This delicate balance of old and new is a testament to the architects' respect for the site's heritage and their commitment to sustainable design practices.

The project's sustainability features are noteworthy, with the architects incorporating eco-friendly elements such as the reuse of existing structures, strategic shading, and the addition of rooftop gardens.
