Revitalizing Urban Spaces: The HHICC Plaza and Hilton Hotel

Allan Ting's Visionary Approach to Urban Renewal and Sustainable Design

Unveiling the HHICC Plaza and Hilton Hotel, a landmark project that redefines the urban landscape of the Guangzhou-Foshan metropolitan area. This mixed-use building, designed by Allan Ting, is a testament to the transformative power of design in revitalizing old urban areas and improving community life.

The project, located on the main transportation road between Guangzhou and Foshan, China, is a response to the urgent need for urban revitalization. The design vision was to create a people-oriented, walk-friendly, adaptable to the local climate, low carbon, open and inclusive, efficient operation of urban renewal benchmarks. The result is a 210,000 square meter area boasting a 200-meter high building that seamlessly integrates star-rated hotels, offices, commerce, banquets, and exhibitions.

The HHICC Plaza and Hilton Hotel stands out for its innovative design and unique properties. The high-rise tower, unlike traditional bottom-up designs, adopts a top-down moving line design. Guests first arrive at the Air Lobby and Air Chef on the 50th floor, offering a 360-degree view of the city. The sky swimming pool on the 38th floor overlooks the bustling city, and the guest room floor is deliberately placed under the public area, creating a relaxed feeling of traveling home.

The project also prioritizes sustainability and climate adaptability. The super high-rise tower doesn't use the popular large-area glass curtain wall design but uses the protruding structural outer beams of each layer to form a horizontal sunshade floating board to reduce the heat absorption of direct sunlight. The arc treatment at the corners of high-rise buildings also effectively reduces wind loads, saves structural and civil construction materials, and reduces carbon footprint in multiple dimensions.

The design philosophy of simplicity, simplicity, and function-led design also hopes to influence and guide new Asian aesthetic trends, so that the general public will have a new understanding of the shaping of the value of beauty and goodness in urban renewal. The completion of the project has effectively improved the overall quality of the local city. The city’s appearance has changed from the dirty, chaotic, and trendy to today’s stylish atmosphere, with orderly traffic, complete community facilities, upgraded industries, and outstanding achievements in creating social and economic value.

For its innovative approach to urban renewal and sustainable design, the HHICC Plaza and Hilton Hotel was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2022. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
