Alan Guyan and John Acevedo, along with their team, spent over two years focusing on materials, 3D printing, and post-processes to create the UA Architech. The design process, which took place in Baltimore, Maryland, and Portland, Oregon, resulted in a unique midsole design that can only be created through a proprietary 3D printing process.
The UA Architech stands out due to its unique properties. It is a 360-degree performance training shoe that features a functional 3D printed midsole and 3D ClutchFit auxetic upper design, creating a “super-hybrid” trainer. This performance trainer provides athletes with the ultimate stability and cushioning to take on the most intense workouts, making it a testament to Under Armour’s dedication to improving athletic performance.
Creating the UA Architech was not without its challenges. The team faced difficulties in manufacturing, particularly in bonding different types of footwear material components together. However, through numerous bonding trials, they were able to select the right materials and focus on the individual component integration and overall execution. The result is a shoe that not only gives a locked-in, supportive feel but also flexes and moves with the foot to provide a Zero Distractions experience.
The UA Architech is not just a functional piece of footwear; it is also a design marvel. After two years of researching various organic shapes and structures, the team created a truly unique and functional 3D Printed lattice design. This design, which uses a 3D Auxetic pattern, can stretch and adapt to the foot shape, providing dynamic stability and a luring design appeal.
Alan Guyan and John Acevedo's innovation has not gone unnoticed. The UA Architech was awarded Platinum in A' Footwear, Shoes and Boots Design Award in 2016. This prestigious award recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that showcase unmatched professionalism, genius, and contribute to societal wellbeing. The UA Architech, with its unique design and functionality, certainly fits this description.
With the UA Architech, Alan Guyan and John Acevedo have pushed the boundaries of footwear design, creating a product that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional and innovative. This design, the first of its kind, is a testament to the power of design and technology and their potential to revolutionize industries.
