Green Pompeii: A Conceptual Console Inspired by Nature's Revenge

A Limited Edition Console with a Futuristic Approach

A limited edition console, each unique, numbered, and signed, Green Pompeii is a conceptual and experimental approach to what nature's revenge might be due to not being taken care of by urban life. Inspired by natural disasters happening all around the world, this console design is a representation of nature's revenge upon us, as a green flood, a green Pompeii.

This design went through a challenging process, with a lot of trial and error before it worked out. A very specific type of resin had to be used to cast over 80 liters of resin in one shot without breaking. The top is made of crystal clear glass, while the base is composed of oxidized brass, concrete, polished stainless steel, gun metal, patinated silver leaf, and crystal epoxy resin.

With dimensions of 180 x 46 x 88 cm, Green Pompeii functions as a console, belonging to the grey zone between Art and Design. It was originally commissioned by Smo Gallery's collective exhibition under the theme of "Revenge" in 2015. The project was also displayed in Design Days Dubai in 2016, attracting a crowd and gaining recognition in reputable magazines. This limited edition consists of only 8 consoles.

The design process involved extensive research, including the creation of small mock-ups to test the resin quality, resistance, and compatibility. The main challenge was finding a concept related to the designer's hometown and addressing the issue of urban construction problems.

Green Pompeii, created by Georges Amatoury Studio, was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2017. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The console's strong technical and creative skills contribute to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
