Revolutionizing Office Spaces: KCI Group Headquarters

KENG FU LO's Innovative Design Wins Prestigious A' Design Award

Architect KENG FU LO's unique approach to office design has resulted in the KCI Group Headquarters, an award-winning structure that redefines the conventional office space. This innovative design, which cleverly combines functionality and aesthetics, has earned the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2017.

The KCI Group Headquarters, located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is not just an office building. It is a testament to the power of innovative design and thoughtful architecture. The building serves as an industrial logistic center, incorporating storage, reception, office, and conference functions. However, it is the unique design approach that sets it apart from conventional office buildings. The design aims to create a fun and engaging exterior, using exposed floating concrete walls to create a visual effect of lightening the building and providing more privacy.

The building's location near a 28-meter road presented a unique challenge. To mitigate the noise and glare from passing cars, the design includes a green area located at the retracted part below the building. The floating exposed concrete not only reduces external disturbances but also improves the privacy of the office. The concrete structure above allows modest daylight to filter in, providing a comfortable light source during the day. The wall's vegetation offers an interior view and emits a fragrant aroma when the Osmanthus is blown by the cold breeze at night.

The building's realization technology also contributes to its uniqueness. Coated steel plates were used for their environmental resistance, including heat, rust, moisture, and weather resistance. This choice also indirectly decreases the interior temperature and reduces the power needed for air conditioning.

The office space spans 1297.76 sq. m., featuring a platform at the entrance that provides a buffer and an emotional transition for visitors. The second floor balcony serves as a communal area for employees, fostering interaction and reducing the psychological burden caused by the height of floors.

The design also emphasizes active public relationships to energize the office environment. Wooden materials are used extensively to soften the office's blunt stereotype, fostering a sense of relaxation and belonging among users. A logwood growing outside the CEO's office adds vibrancy to the area, symbolizing the growth and dynamism of the company.

The KCI Group Headquarters is a shining example of how thoughtful design and innovative architecture can transform a conventional office space into a vibrant, engaging, and functional environment. This award-winning design by KENG FU LO is a testament to the power of innovation and the potential of design to redefine our everyday spaces.
