Bejarano's inspiration for Shape-A-Shelf came from the digitalization of books. As more people turn to e-books, the designer saw an opportunity to update the traditional bookshelf. The result is a shelf that is not just functional but also flexible, allowing users to shape it according to their needs or create a design unique to them.

Shape-A-Shelf stands out for its flexibility, which allows homeowners more control over their design ideas. It works with five pegs that are attached to the wall and then inserted into the shelf itself. The shelf is made from 100% recycled PET felt, supporting sustainability while offering a unique aesthetic appeal.

The manufacturing process of Shape-A-Shelf is simple and energy-efficient, involving basic materials like steel for the pegs, recycled PET felt for the shelf surface, and webbing strips for added strength and rigidity. The entire shelf is made with a simple sewing machine, while the pegs are crafted from a metal rod.

Shape-A-Shelf's flexible property allows it to be stored, packaged, and displayed in stores using minimal space compared to other shelves. It folds down to a size of 10" x 11" and only 2" in depth. The packaging can be either a cardboard strip that holds the shelf and pegs in place or a small 100% recycled PET felt bag that contains the folded shelf with the pegs. Its lightweight and soft nature also make it a safe choice for children.

Shape-A-Shelf is not just a shelf, but a design element that can be manipulated to create various forms. Users can easily remove and insert it into the pegs to create different shapes using the same fixed position of the pegs. The design challenges the status quo, offering a new perspective on shelving that is flexible, versatile, and aesthetically pleasing.

Shape-A-Shelf's innovative design has been recognized with the Iron A' Furniture Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements and contribute to a better world.
