Revolutionizing Racer Safety: The Innovative SHR Flex

SCHROTH Racing's Frontal Head Restraint Redefines Comfort and Protection

Addressing the pressing issue of upper neck injuries in racing, SCHROTH Racing introduces the SHR Flex, a Frontal Head Restraint system that combines safety, comfort, and adaptability. This innovative design is set to transform racer safety, offering an unprecedented level of protection in high-impact crashes.

The SHR Flex, inspired by the deficiencies in existing Frontal Head Restraint designs, aims to prevent racing fatalities caused by upper neck injuries. The design is a novel approach that overcomes the limitations of current products while meeting rigorous biomechanical performance demands.

What sets the SHR Flex apart is its unique articulated low profile design that automatically adapts to any body type and seating configuration. During normal racing conditions, the device is unobtrusive and does not limit the racer's helmet motions. However, in the event of a high-impact crash, the SHR Flex activates into a biomechanically optimized restraint configuration, providing maximum protection to the racer.

The realization of the SHR Flex involved two significant innovations - a rigid articulating "collar" to manage impact energies, and torso-conforming, flexible, overmolded "legs" to comfortably and reliably anchor the device during an impact. These inventions required extensive modeling for function, form, and material properties, and were validated through user trials and high-impact crash test sled testing.

The SHR Flex meets the biomechanical and technical performance requirements of the SFI Foundation, Inc.'s Specification 38.1. The device is available in two sizes to accommodate all racers and is value-priced for wide accessibility. It also comes with patent pending "Twist Anchor" helmet latches that allow a racer to quickly and simply latch/unlatch it with their helmet.

The SHR Flex project, initiated in 2013 in Arnsberg, Germany, involved extensive research and testing. The detailed design was created by Creature and Enginuity Works in Atlanta, Georgia. Production started in late 2015 in Germany, and the SHR Flex was launched following successful third-party biomechanical acceptance testing in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The SHR Flex is a testament to the power of innovative design in enhancing safety in the racing industry. It has been recognized for its outstanding design and impact, winning the Golden A' Sporting Goods, Fitness and Recreation Equipment Design Award in 2017. With its unique features and proven effectiveness, the SHR Flex is set to revolutionize racer safety.
