Revolutionizing Dating: The Lamo Table Set

Yu Chien Yang's Innovative Design Sparks Chemistry Between Lovers

Yu Chien Yang's Lamo, an experimental table set, is an innovative design that aims to facilitate dating and create chemistry between couples. Inspired by psychological theories and subconscious influences, the Lamo table set is a unique blend of art, design, and technology.

Yu Chien Yang's inspiration for the Lamo table set stemmed from the desire to subtly influence the dating experience. The designer sought to incorporate psychological methods and subconscious influences into the design to foster feelings of love and attraction between couples. The result is a product that not only serves a practical purpose but also enhances the overall dating experience.

The Lamo table set stands out due to its unique properties. Designed specifically for dating occasions such as lounge bars or afternoon teas, the table set is made from laser-cut stainless steel sheets. This material choice creates an unstable, bouncy, and somewhat dangerous feeling during usage. The designer hopes that this sense of instability, combined with the theory of Misattribution of Arousal, will spark chemistry between lovers.

The production of the Lamo table set involves laser cutting stainless steel, resulting in a table that measures 900 x 900 x 750mm and a light that measures 350 x 350 x 500mm. The tableware, when used, creates a shaking effect due to the pressure of taking food. This, combined with the light reflected by the table edge, creates a sparkling reflection around the table, adding to the overall ambiance.

The Lamo table set was designed and produced between September 2015 and May 2016 in Taipei. It was exhibited at Yodex, the largest student-oriented design exhibition in Taiwan, in June 2016, and at Taiwan Designer's Week in September 2016. The design is based on the theory of Misattribution of Arousal, which suggests that people may misinterpret their elevated heart rate in unstable or dangerous situations as attraction towards the opposite sex.

The Lamo table set has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2017. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, strong technical characteristics, and impressive artistic skill. The Lamo table set is a testament to Yu Chien Yang's creativity and his ability to merge art, design, and psychology to enhance everyday experiences.
