2016 Taipei Public Housing Exhibition: A Platform for City-Citizen Communication

The exhibition design stands out for its innovative use of glass to create a floating island, symbolizing hope. The island bears models of public housing, with light and shadow projections on the ground representing future visions to be fully built in the land of Taipei. The designers envision public housing as an integral part of the future residential structure, a common vision shared by Taiwan's youth.

Spanning a space of 3.24 square meters, the exhibition features a large cube that draws visitors' attention and guides them into the exhibition. The wall-mounted furniture frames serve as a reminder that housing is a basic need, not a luxury. The exhibition covers a total area of 400 square meters.

White is used extensively in the exhibition design, symbolizing purity, peace, and justice. It also serves as a spiritual symbol of Mayor Ko Wen-je, known for wearing a white robe while helping patients. The designers hope that public housing will carry this spirit of white, maximizing living justice.

The project, completed in December 2015 in Taipei City, Taiwan, was driven by the awakening of citizen consciousness and the growing concern for living justice. The designers faced the creative challenge of arousing people's desire and imagination for home, creating an engaging experience with a multi-level three-dimensional space and a two-dimensional plane.

The 2016 Taipei Public Housing Exhibition has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, advancing art, science, design, and technology.
