The Cypris Ring stands out in its design and execution. The initial concept was developed through bending an original Cypris bracelet, leading to the discovery of new shapes and curves. The final design presents a dynamic relationship of curves with different tensions and directions, leading the eye on an endless journey along its winding trail. The journey concludes with a bright white pearl that appears to float gently on the polished surface, reminiscent of a pearl in the sea.
The ring's unique properties lie in its contrast between polished and satin finishes. This contrast allows light and reflections to interact with the ring in two distinct ways. The polished surface mirrors and distorts the surrounding environment, while the satin finish captures only the luminosity and spreads it smoothly through the piece. This interplay of light and reflection brings the ring to life, creating a piece that is as dynamic and unpredictable as the sea itself.
The Cypris Ring is crafted using laminated metal and hand bent techniques. The finishes are achieved through polishing and glass bead sandblasting. The ring is available in 18k white gold or 950 silver, with a 10mm white pearl. The gold editions are delivered in a typical B&M handmade wooden box, adding an extra touch of luxury to the piece.
The project, which started in August 2015 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, took around two weeks from the initial studies to the final piece. The biggest challenge faced by the designers was creating an adjustment system that allows the ring to fit comfortably on any finger size, taking advantage of the metal's physical properties. Despite these challenges, the designers managed to keep the silhouette and the curves of the ring spontaneous, reflecting the unpredictable nature of the sea.
With its unique design and exquisite craftsmanship, the Cypris Ring is a testament to the designers' ability to transform inspiration from nature into a tangible piece of art. The ring is not just a piece of jewelry, but a sculpture that captures the essence of the sea, making it a deserving winner of the prestigious Golden A' Design Award.
