inMOOV: A Kinetic Masterpiece by Studio Lieven

Art and Functionality Merge in Award-Winning Adjustable Lamp Design

Studio Lieven's inMOOV lamp, a Golden A' Design Award winner, is a testament to the seamless integration of art and functionality. Inspired by natural movements, this adjustable, kinetic lamp brings the dynamics of nature into living spaces.

The inMOOV lamp, conceived by Berlin-based Studio Lieven, is a ceiling lighting device that stands apart due to its unique movable body. The lamp's body can be manually adjusted around its horizontal axis, folding inside and out, based on the designer's invention of the Invertible Disc. This innovative design allows users to control the light's color changes, ranging from 3500 Kelvin when open to 2500 Kelvin when closed.

Studio Lieven's design was inspired by the movements found in nature, such as the opening of a flower or the swimming of a jellyfish. The aim was to transfer these fascinating movements into a living space, resulting in a lamp that not only illuminates but also adds a dynamic, artistic element to the room.

The inMOOV lamp is assembled by hand in Berlin, using materials like textile, wood, steel, brass, carbon, and PVC. The lamp's body is fitted with LED strips, ensuring maximum luminous flux of 1200 lm. The lamp, with a diameter of 93 cm and a height of 70 cm, weighs approximately 1.5 kilos.

The lamp's unique ability to fold itself inside out allows users to regulate the intensity and direction of the light. When fully opened, the lamp creates a soft light directed towards the ceiling. When folded, it emits a more focused and warm light, illuminating the space underneath it. This interaction with the lamp adds a unique, tactile dimension to the lighting experience.

Studio Lieven's inMOOV lamp was first exhibited at the Berlin Design Week in June 2016. The design project, which began in August 2014, was completed in June 2016. The project posed creative and technical challenges, as the goal was to create an adjustable, movable object that brings the movements of nature into a living space.

The inMOOV lamp is not only a lighting device but also a piece of kinetic art. It is a testament to Studio Lieven's innovative approach to design, merging functionality with artistic expression. The lamp's unique design and functionality have earned it the prestigious Golden A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2017.
