Nic Lee's Award-Winning Design Merges Architecture with Nature

The design's unique features lie in its ability to extend the indoor space to the outdoors. The cube that extends from the facade serves as an intermediary space between the indoor and outdoor areas. This cube, made of stainless steel, reflects the blue sky, merging the architecture with the surrounding nature. The roof garden features a uniquely designed sink in the shape of a toppled giant milk box, which sprinkles a pool of grass, further integrating the residence with nature.

The realization of this design was a meticulous process involving the use of rich materials to give the villa a vivid spirit and relaxing comfort. Gray color tiles, homogeneous tile, and Mocha granite were used to create partition walls that guide visitors through a layered space. The living room is dominated by a limestone partition used as a TV partition and stereo system, contrasting with the soft and intimate materials used in the spa area.

The design was created in Taipei, Taiwan, between July 2011 and October 2013. The project faced the challenge of being located in a natural preservation site, meaning the building could only be renovated using the existing old structure. Despite this, the design team managed to create a modern space that respects the idea of the "free plan," making it ideal for the client's collection of top-end furniture pieces.
