SoloPlus+: A Fusion of Coffee and Gaming

WST-DESIGN CO.,LTD. Creates a Unique Space for Relaxation and Recreation

The SoloPlus+ project, located in Guangzhou, started in February 2016 and was completed in November of the same year. The design team, led by Wenzhi Liu, created a space that is both a café and a video game hall. The café on the first floor serves not only as a place for customers to rest and enjoy a cup of coffee but also as a business entity in itself. The second floor is dedicated to video gaming, providing a complementary relationship between the two areas.

The design concept of SoloPlus+ is rooted in the exploration of human nature. The designers believe that the game, being a pure form of emotion, should be simple. In the noisy environment of Guangzhou, people need a quiet place. Thus, the space does not exhibit a photoelectric atmosphere but rather a calm and serene environment for people to enjoy their games. The design also aims to express cohesion, strength, and passion, which are essential aspects of team gaming.

The unique properties of SoloPlus+ lie in its functional design and the expression of human emotions. The design team used materials such as cement, wood, and black steel to create a reliable, mysterious, and primitive space. The irregular space of the gaming room provides a rich flow space, subtly divided into different regions to accommodate small teams. The café, on the other hand, uses white marble and wood to create an elegant and relaxed atmosphere.

The design of SoloPlus+ faced several challenges, primarily in defining the style and managing the spatial density. The team wanted to inspire a happy and naive nature in people, which is often overlooked in high-tech game office styles. To overcome the challenge of irregular outer space, the team employed the Chinese garden approach to effectively control walking routes and maintain a neat and continuous space.

SoloPlus+ has been recognized for its innovative design and was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, introducing positive feelings, amazement, and wonder. The SoloPlus+ project truly embodies these qualities, providing a unique space for relaxation and recreation.
