Meow - The Cat Nutrition for Stray CatsProviding Food and Water in One Package
In Turkey, there are lots of stray cats in the streets even documentaries have been made about it. When we come across a poor stray cat in the street it is really hard for an animal lover to look another way and go ahead. We care about them so lots of people carry cat food in their bags. But the hardest part is not just feeding, it is mostly about giving them water or to find a container to pour fresh water for them. The idea with Meow is to supply both cat food and clean water in one package.
Meow is a packaging design idea created by Bahar Bostancı and Evrim Uvacin Isik that aims to provide cat food and water at once for stray cats. It creates a new range of packaging style by combining food and water in one piece. The product is designed to address the specific needs of stray cats, which often struggle to find both food and water in their environment.
The packaging product will be realized using the form-fill-seal method, with the plastic part produced by vacuum forming. After filling the food and water, aluminum foils will be sealed in the same process. The dimensions of the packaging are 16.5 cm width, 14.5 cm depth, and 4.5 cm height.
When encountering a stray cat in the street, individuals can purchase the Meow package from nearby grocery stores or carry them in their bags or trunk. In times of need, the package can be easily opened, and the nutrition unit is ready for the cats.
The Meow design was created in July 2016 in Istanbul and won the 1st Prize at Ikmib Packaging Design Awards. Although the product has not been produced yet and remains conceptual, an application for a utility model in Turkey has been completed and is currently pending. The design was born out of the designers' observation of the necessity for a specialized product for stray cats and their desire to provide a practical solution to help these animals.
Meow stands out from other pet products in the market by specifically catering to the needs of street animals that require more assistance from humans. While the design is specialized for cats, it can be adapted for birds or dogs as well. The main objective is to create an alternative packaging idea that addresses an existing problem, which can be a matter of life or death for a vulnerable animal.
The Meow design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in 2017. This award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Meow design is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings while contributing to a better world.
