Nico Ueberholz, a name synonymous with innovative design, has once again pushed the boundaries of exhibition design with his creation, Gira 2008. This design, a further development of the Fairstand concept from 2000, 2002, 2004, and 2006, employs a glass girder construction with a new surface, revolutionizing the way products are presented.
The unique properties of Gira 2008 lie in its architecture and use of materials. The glass girder construction was updated with new glass slabs in a raster of 50 cm instead of the usual 100 cm in height. The glass was replaced with satined glass, and all fluorescent tubes used were daylight tubes. This created a natural effect, making the stand seem larger and more inviting. The exclusive use of white material, except for the wooden floor, added to the stand's luminous character.
Ueberholz's design was realized using a combination of floors and walls. The bright light cube was contrasted with an oak floor, and the facade of the double floor building was decorated with the same raster as the glass wall with Plexiglas, which was varnished white from the back. This resulted in a glossy and matte modulation, creating a visually stunning effect.
The Gira 2008 was showcased at LIGHT & BUILDING, Frankfurt, in 2008. The design process was marked by a series of challenges, including the need to make the stand area seem larger and to present products in a new way. Ueberholz overcame these challenges by innovating the load-bearing system and making the cube light out of itself, creating an almost immaterial character.
Ueberholz's design prowess was recognized when Gira 2008 was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
In conclusion, Nico Ueberholz's Gira 2008 stands as a testament to his innovative spirit and design expertise. It is a shining example of how design can transform the way products are presented, creating a unique and engaging experience for viewers. With its unique properties and award-winning design, Gira 2008 is set to inspire future generations of designers.
