What sets Ink Development apart is the application of the geometrical method in the design of the stair railing. The alternating pattern of virtual and actual elements, along with the neat shadow lines, creates a dynamic spatial atmosphere that changes with every moment. This unique feature, combined with the clever use of various types of lamplight and natural light, adds a touch of magic to the space.
The materials used in the realization of this design include iron metal, glasses, steel, and plastic floor tiles. The choice of black iron as the main material creates a cohesive look throughout the office, from the facade to the smallest details of the handle hardware. The natural grain of the black iron is retained, allowing the space to transition from dark to light, resembling the changing shades of ink. The combination of cold ironware and warm lighting creates a mysterious and inspiring atmosphere that stimulates the creativity of the staff.
The Ink Development project took place in Taipei, Taiwan, starting in November 2016 and completed in January 2017. The design team, led by Cheng-Yuan Huang and Kai-Chen Chiu, carefully planned the office area for the staff on the first floor, while creating a director's office area and conference space on the second floor. The bar area, serving as a connecting zone between the two floors, was designed to provide a relaxing space where employees can enjoy coffee or wine, promoting a happier atmosphere.
One of the challenges faced during the design process was maximizing the space in a limited area. The linear ceiling lamp was strategically placed to lead the area and create a sense of depth, amplifying the visual perception of the space. This design element successfully overcame the challenge and added a unique touch to the overall design.
Cheng-Yuan Huang's vision for Ink Development was to create a space that embodies the essence of ink, with its ever-changing shades and depths. By using black iron as the main material and incorporating thoughtful design elements, the space truly reflects the designer's intention. The result is an office that not only provides a functional workspace but also inspires creativity and innovation.
This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2017. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.
