The goal of GU 25 was to preserve the existing charm of the space while incorporating modern design elements. The parquet floor, a testament to the building's history, was carefully restored, adding warmth and character to the studio. The walls and ceilings were kept pristine white, allowing the art to take center stage, unaffected by the surroundings.
One of the standout features of GU 25 is the modern kitchen, which not only serves as a functional space but also doubles as an art storage and exhibition area. A freestanding stone tube, cleverly designed as a cooling tray for drinks during events, adds a touch of elegance and versatility to the space. The uncovered tile floor adds a unique atmosphere, creating a visual contrast with the preserved parquet.
The studio also boasts a sleeping loft for guests, accessible via a ladder. This flexible use of space allows for various activities, from artistic and architectural work processes to meetings with artists and clients. Light rails integrated below the ceiling provide adjustable lighting options, enhancing the ambiance for evening events or highlighting specific artworks.
GU 25 spans an impressive 123 square meters and is a testament to Isa Stein's vision and attention to detail. The space offers a seamless blend of art, architecture, and functionality, making it an ideal environment for creativity to thrive.
Completed in January 2015, GU 25 is a testament to the artist's dedication to creating a space that fosters collaboration and inspiration. The design reflects extensive research and a desire to preserve the old while embracing the new. Unique pieces of interior fittings, such as antique chairs and a stone bathtub and sink, add a touch of elegance and individuality to the space.
GU 25 has received recognition for its outstanding design. In 2017, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award celebrates designs that showcase creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
