The design inspiration for Umpqua Bank Spokane Main was deeply rooted in the city of Spokane and its historic downtown. The designers preserved elements of the existing building, once a prominent department store, such as the ornamented columns found throughout the space. A new facade was added, reminiscent of the architecture of the period. The city's history also influenced the art and graphics inside the space, from a Spokane inspired pattern in the reading alcove to a three-dimensional mural in the community exchange room, artfully evoking images of the World's Fair held there in 1974.
What sets this design apart is its unique blend of history and innovation. The flagship retail store, located in historic downtown Spokane, WA, serves as a destination for visitors and a hub for the community. The understated storefront allows the interior to shine through. A lounge space offers guests a chance to enjoy complimentary coffee and tea, read a book, or access Wi-Fi, and features integrated presentation capabilities for community events. The Community Wall features product information and upcoming events, and three meeting rooms are available for customers or the public to reserve for free.
The store was built in an existing retail space in a historical building in downtown Spokane. Throughout the design process, special attention was given to work effectively within the existing structure and preserve historical building elements such as the ornamented columns in the space. The space was designed using inviting materials and bright colors to create a warm environment and draw people in.
