Eatime Space: A Harmonious Blend of Dining and Working

Designers Liang Ding and Yuefeng Zhou Create a Unique Industrial-Inspired Space

In an era where the boundaries between work and leisure are increasingly blurred, the Eatime Space, a project by designers Liang Ding and Yuefeng Zhou, emerges as a unique concept that combines dining and working in a single, harmonious environment. This award-winning design, inspired by the concept of time and the industrial aesthetic of a workshop, offers a three-dimensional, interactive space where people can eat, work, and enjoy their time.

The name Eatime, a play on the words 'eat' and 'time', is a nod to the project's dual purpose. The designers drew inspiration from the workshop, a place that symbolizes the passage of time and the evolution of industry. The decor, from the ceiling to the floor, is a vivid representation of industrial elements, with a special emphasis on the use of pipes. These pipes, meticulously arranged, form the main design element on the ceiling and integrate with the Rubik's cube-like units that make up the space.

Eatime Space's uniqueness lies in its ability to create a peaceful environment that encourages work and reflection. The design subtly blends raw and finished elements, paying homage to the purest form of design. Time is a recurring motif in the decor, with giant watch structures hanging from the ceiling and various clocks adorning the walls. The result is a space that is as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional.

The realization of the Eatime Space involved the use of a wide variety of materials, including latex paint, cement art paint, metallic paint, reinforced wood flooring, ceramic tile, and cement tile. Recycled containers with a metallic paint layer contrast beautifully with the warm wooden surfaces, adding another layer of depth to the design. Despite the challenges posed by the existing pipes on the site, the designers managed to incorporate them into the design seamlessly, creating a clean, minimalist ceiling.

The project, which started in June 2017 and was completed in November 2018, is located in Nanjing, Jiangsu, China. It covers a total area of 1024 square meters. The designers' commitment to creating a unique dining and working environment earned them the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020. This prestigious award recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.

In conclusion, the Eatime Space is a testament to the power of design in transforming everyday experiences. By seamlessly blending elements of dining and working, designers Liang Ding and Yuefeng Zhou have created a space that is not just functional, but also a celebration of time, industry, and creativity. It is a design that truly stands out, not just for its aesthetic appeal, but also for its innovative approach to space utilization.
