Spoosh: A Stylish and Efficient Washer for Small Kitchen Accessories

Revolutionizing the Way We Wash

Nowadays, kitchen accessories tend to have a more rectangular design, lacking variety in form. However, the innovative design team of Zahra Ebadi, Maryam Zinati, and Yusef h.m.zade have taken a fresh approach with their latest creation, Spoosh. This compact washer is specifically designed to wash small dishes such as spoons, forks, and knives, providing a unique and enjoyable experience while reducing water consumption.

Spoosh addresses the common problem of washing small kitchen accessories by introducing a specialized machine for this task. The device features a compartment for placing spoons, forks, and knives. Once filled, the chamber is placed inside the machine. By utilizing high-pressure water and a circulation flow of steam, Spoosh significantly reduces water consumption while effectively washing and drying the utensils.

One of the key advantages of Spoosh is its ability to decrease the frequency of using a dishwasher. With this dedicated machine, users can enjoy the convenience of washing small containers such as spoons and forks separately, saving time and energy. The designers have carefully considered the needs of individuals who find the act of washing cutlery distasteful, providing a solution that enhances the overall kitchen experience.

The Spoosh washer is made using a combination of materials. The main body is constructed from ABS plastic through injection molding, ensuring durability and a sleek appearance. The transparent part of the machine is made from polycarbonate plastic using the plastic injection method. The dripping material is stainless steel, which undergoes punch and deep drawing processes to achieve the desired shape. Additionally, the insulation around the door is made of polyurethane using the extrusion method.

Measuring at a compact size of 200mm in width, 200mm in depth, and 300mm in height, Spoosh is designed to fit seamlessly into any kitchen space. Its sleek and modern design adds a touch of elegance to the countertop, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the kitchen.

To use Spoosh, simply place the steel cutlery into the designated basket and insert it into the machine. Add detergent, turn on the device, and select the desired wash cycle. The machine will rotate continuously, first washing and then drying the spoons and forks. After the designated time, an alarm will sound, indicating the end of the wash cycle. The basket can then be removed from the machine, leaving the cutlery clean and dry, ready for use.

The Spoosh washer was developed through a collaboration between three graduate students from the Iran University of Science and Technology Department of Industrial Design. Over a period of four months, from August to December 2015, the team worked diligently to create a prototype that embodies good interaction and teamwork. Their goal was to design a product that not only provides optimal performance but also contributes to the culture of efficient water use.

This innovative design has been recognized with the prestigious A' Design Award in 2017. The Spoosh washer was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Home Appliances Design category. This accolade is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Spoosh washer stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
