Reviving Tradition: Casa Chiavelli Private Home

A harmonious blend of traditional architecture and contemporary design by Filippo Caprioglio

In the serene hills of northern Italy, an old farming house and its annex have been transformed into a stunning contemporary home. The Casa Chiavelli Private Home, designed by Filippo Caprioglio, is a testament to the harmonious blend of traditional architecture and modern design. This award-winning project is a remarkable example of how the past can be preserved while embracing the future.

The inspiration for Casa Chiavelli came from the unique landscape of the Veneto region. The design team aimed to create a constant dialogue between the interior and exterior of the home, fostering a sense of serenity and connection with the surrounding nature. The balance of materials, colors, and proportions played a significant role in achieving this goal.

The project's uniqueness lies in its respectful transformation of the original architecture. While the design introduces new materials and spaces to cater to the family's needs, it retains the original building's peculiarities. The use of steel, wood, and glass was fundamental to the entire process, creating a seamless blend of old and new.

The home spans over 500 square meters, with three levels in the main house, two in the annex, and a basement that houses a cellar and connects to the garage. Despite its size, the design maintains a sense of intimacy and warmth, a testament to Caprioglio's thoughtful design approach.

The project was not without its challenges. The design team had to strike a delicate balance between respecting the traditional architecture of the region and introducing a contemporary language. However, their meticulous attention to detail and commitment to preserving the building's original axiality resulted in a design that is both innovative and respectful of its roots.

The Casa Chiavelli Private Home is a shining example of sustainable architecture, restoration, and the harmonious integration of landscape and nature. It has been recognized for its outstanding design and innovation, winning the Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2017. This prestigious accolade is awarded to designs that demonstrate remarkable expertise, innovation, and artistic skill.
