The inspiration behind the design was the Nike brand value that everyone is an athlete. The space was designed to establish an emotional connection with any visitor, going beyond a mere workout space or product display. The Nike Studio Beijing amplifies Nike’s brand values in a tangible way, allowing people to visit and experience them.
What sets this design apart is its dual function. Nike wanted a pop-up space that embodied infinity and empowerment while promoting their new collections and Nike+ Run Club. Coordination Asia responded with a brand space that not only showcases Nike's products but also provides a space for customers to test these products, redefining what it means to be “in the zone”.
The 1,200 sqm pop-up space was launched in August 2015, coinciding with the World Athletic Championships in Beijing, China. The design team, led by Tilman Thürmer, included Francois Aubret, Manuela Mappa, Yu Yin, Vega Li, Ashley Liu, Kira Chien, Liu Zhuang, and Jin Jin Wang.
The Nike Studio Beijing has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
With its innovative design and unique approach to retail, the Nike Studio Beijing by Coordination Asia is a shining example of how design can transform a brand's values into a physical, interactive experience.
