Organic House, a creation of Javier Senosiain and Daniel Arredondo, is a distinctive piece of architecture that draws its inspiration from nature and the organic space. The designers aimed to develop living spaces reminiscent of the human origin in nature, akin to a womb, an animal's lair, or a troglodyte dwelling. This design represents a deliberate reconciliation with nature, rather than a return to the past.
The uniqueness of the Organic House lies in its adaptation to human environmental, physical, and psychological needs. The house is designed to resemble spaces like the maternal womb, animal shelters, and the concave spaces that recall the comforting arms of a mother. The house, built on a 300 square meter land, boasts 180 square meters of construction and an additional 300 square meters of garden.
The realization of the Organic House was a feat of innovative construction techniques. The designers used ferrocement, a material known for its plasticity and resilience, to create a monolithic, moldable structure. The construction began with a steel bars frame, which was shaped into a spiral. After attaching two lengths of interwoven wire netting, a mortar with little water content was cast on top, achieving a 4-centimeter shell.
The house is designed to work in harmony with the environment. The earth and sun collaborate to maintain a stable temperature within the house. The windows can be oriented in any direction, and the domes permit light and sunshine to enter from above. The aerodynamic shape of the dwelling facilitates easy ventilation and free circulation of air. The house is covered with soil and grass, which protect the membrane from sun, wind, hail, and yearly dry-rainy cycles.
The Organic House is a result of twenty years of research into the organic world and the spaces which man can adapt. The house was designed to coexist in harmony with nature, a principle often overlooked in modern city planning. The design overcame commercial, industrial, and conventional interests, prioritizing the creation of continuous, ample, integral spaces that liberate shapes.
The Organic House was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
