Portable Toilet: A Convenient and Innovative Solution for Outdoor Use

Revolutionizing Public Restrooms with Foldable Design

Portable toilets have long been a necessity for outdoor events and construction sites, but the design by Wei Jingye, Yu Haolin, Tong Da, and Cai Shixuan takes convenience to a whole new level. With its foldable structure and easy mobility, this portable toilet offers a practical and efficient solution for outdoor sanitation needs.

When faced with the inconvenience of outdoor restroom facilities, the design team was inspired to create a portable toilet that would prioritize convenience and aesthetics. The result is a vertical cuboid shape with added steel pipe elements on the external plane and corners, enhancing both its visual appeal and structural integrity. The aluminum alloy frame is coated in black, and the waterproof fiber cloth cover can be easily replaced to suit different preferences.

What sets this portable toilet apart is its unique folding function, achieved through the application of ergonomic principles. The design incorporates stretching, locking, and limiting mechanisms to enable easy movement, transportation, and usage. This makes it ideal for a variety of settings, including city streets, suburban parties, and construction sites. Additionally, the product features a sewage system that can be easily connected to the ground, ensuring both convenience and efficient waste management.

The realization of this design involves the use of advanced manufacturing techniques. The outer frame is made of aluminum alloy, with connections secured by shafts. Metal cutting, polishing, and baking processes are employed to achieve a sleek finish. The main body of the portable toilet is constructed using waterproof fiber cloth, which is cut and stitched to ensure durability. Metal casting is utilized for the covers, further enhancing the product's overall quality.

With dimensions of 1000mm×1000mm×2000mm when expanded and 1000mm×1000mm×150mm when folded, this portable toilet offers a compact and space-saving solution. The metal components are meticulously crafted through cutting, polishing, and painting techniques, while the vertical cuboid shape is achieved through precise cutting and sewing of the waterproof fiber cloth. The result is a portable toilet that is both functional and visually appealing.

The design team behind this portable toilet includes Wei Jingye, Yu Haolin, Tong Da, and Cai Shixuan. Their collaboration and expertise in the field of industrial design have contributed to the success of this innovative solution. The portable toilet was first trialed in September 2016 in Shenyang, completed in November of the same year, and showcased in December at the museum of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang.

Based on extensive research and ergonomic principles, this portable toilet offers a practical and efficient solution for outdoor restroom needs. Its folding structure reflects the product's functionality, addressing the urgent requirement for sanitary facilities in emergency situations. With its simple yet effective design, environmentally friendly materials, and ease of production, this portable toilet sets a new standard in outdoor sanitation.

The design has not gone unnoticed, as it was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Street and City Furniture Design category in 2017. This prestigious accolade recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The portable toilet's integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics contributes to a better world, providing fulfillment and positive experiences for users.
