LaPuro: A Medical Beauty Centre Redefined

Designers Tony Lau Chi-Hoi and Kathy Lam Ka Yi create a unique medical beauty centre

LaPuro, a medical beauty centre designed by Tony Lau Chi-Hoi and Kathy Lam Ka Yi, redefines the concept of a medical beauty enterprise. The design combines classical architecture and top technology to create a space that is both 'energetic and graceful'. The centre aims to attract a high-end clientele by offering a unique aesthetic and high-quality service.

The brand name, LaPuro, comes from the French words meaning 'the pure, clear and limpid'. The design of the centre is inspired by the concepts of milk and honey. Milk, representing life and beauty, is reflected in the healthcare and beauty services provided by the centre. The wave and movement of honey are represented in the space planning, with the ceiling features designed to create an atmosphere of care and aesthetic simplicity.

The material selection for the centre was guided by a balance of aesthetics and hygiene. Clear white marble flooring and pure white hygienic paint on the walls create a fancy yet clean environment. The reception desk is designed with a sloped surface to accommodate users of different heights. The designers also prioritized the use of sustainable and environmentally friendly materials.

The centre is designed to cater to the needs of various parties including doctors, the medical team, clients, and their companions. Each party has their own designated space and privacy, with different openings for leaving rooms after treatment to maintain privacy. The medical team acts as a bridge, taking care of the clients and supporting the doctors. There is also a special seat for companions with a mini bar at the end of the corridor.

Before starting the design process, the designers studied the process and operation of medical beauty centres to understand the needs of doctors and clients. The user experience was incorporated into the spatial planning to provide a great space environment for users. The design has been well received, with clients reporting feeling comfortable and relaxed in the environment.

One of the challenges faced in designing the centre was creating a calming atmosphere for clients who may feel nervous and anxious about their surgery or treatment. The reception area was designed to create a welcoming atmosphere, and zone planning was used to maintain client privacy throughout the treatment process. Despite the limited space, curved partitions were used to visually widen the space.

LaPuro was awarded the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology. The design of LaPuro embodies extraordinary excellence and significantly impacts the world with its desirable characteristics.
