Eva: A Minimalist Masterpiece in Basin Furniture Design

iñaki leite's Award-Winning Design Marries Simplicity and Functionality

Renowned designer iñaki leite introduces Eva, a minimalist basin furniture design that blends simplicity and functionality. This innovative design, inspired by architectural forms and geometric volume, has been recognized with a Silver A' Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design Award in 2017.

Leite's inspiration for Eva stemmed from the appeal of minimal design and the desire to create a calming yet intriguing feature within a space. The design, characterized by its minimalistic and quiet aesthetic, aims to create a relaxing atmosphere in the home. Available in several variations, including stand-alone, sit-on bench, and wall-mounted versions, Eva offers both single and double sink options. The choice of color allows for varying degrees of integration into the space it occupies.

The unique properties of Eva lie in its simplicity and tranquility. The design, based on the Alape basin, utilizes matte white coated aluminium and noble wood, coupled with a Dornbracht tap. The final shape and joins were meticulously defined through numerous sketches, with the final result being a collaborative agreement between the designer and a craftsman specializing in metal and wood carpentry.

Technical specifications of Eva include a total dimension of length 1180mm, width 500mm, and height 430mm. The design offers four options: a single sink that can be wall-mounted or sit-on bench, and a double sink that can be stand-alone or sit-on bench. This flexibility makes Eva suitable for both residential and contract projects, as well as hospitality settings.

The design process for Eva began in May 2016 in London and concluded in October of the same year. The design now forms part of the furnishings of the GC House in London, a project designed by iñaki leite for YourArchitectLondon. The design was developed with a focus on the Alape basin and Dornbracht tap, aiming to achieve a minimal design that would be commercially viable.

The main challenge encountered during the design process was ensuring compatibility between the materials and their joins. Additionally, the hardware system for the drawer needed to meet the high-quality expectations associated with the design. Despite these challenges, Eva emerged as a testament to the designer's commitment to minimalism and functionality, earning it the prestigious Silver A' Design Award.
