Magam Calendar: A Unique Blend of Design and Function

A Sophisticated and Innovative Desktop Calendar

The Magam calendar for 2017, designed by Izabela Jurczyk & Małgorzata Boszulak of Studio Design, is a stunning example of the perfect fusion of art and functionality. This desktop calendar not only serves as a practical tool for organizing your schedule but also doubles as a visually captivating piece of art.

The inspiration for the Magam calendar came from the designer's newly created visual communication for Magam, the largest Polish manufacturer of woven labels and curtain tapes. At the customer's request, a custom geometric system was developed, symbolically assigned to specific product groups. This system served as the foundation for the captivating graphics displayed on the calendar.

The calendar features a unique design that sets it apart from traditional calendars. It consists of a rack with a suspended spiral binding, covered by a sheet that spans the entire surface. On the right-hand side, there are four graphics cards, each representing one quarter of the year. These cards are made on different raw materials, with careful consideration given to color printing and finishing techniques.

On the left side of the calendar, there are 12 cards, one for each month, allowing for notes and reminders. These cards are made on gray decorative paper, dyed in the mass, adding a touch of elegance to the overall design. The calendar is accompanied by a box in the form of an original envelope, made of red decorative cardboard and printed with pantone silver.

The realization of the Magam calendar involved a combination of various printing techniques, including offset printing, screen printing, and digital printing. Additionally, hot foil stamping, punching, laser cutting, and UV coating were employed to achieve the desired visual effects.

Measuring 210 x 148 mm, the Magam calendar is a compact and convenient desktop accessory. Its unique design and meticulous attention to detail make it a standout piece that seamlessly integrates into any workspace or home environment.

The Magam calendar project began in July 2016 and was completed in December 2016 in Lodz, Poland. Throughout the design process, the team faced the challenge of creating an original concept that showcased a wide range of decorative and synthetic tags, such as curtain tapes and woven labels. The careful selection of colors and textures of the raw materials used played a crucial role in overcoming this challenge.

The Magam calendar has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2017 in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This prestigious award acknowledges the calendar's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements.

The Magam calendar is not just a tool for organizing your schedule; it is a work of art that adds a touch of sophistication to any space. With its captivating graphics and meticulous craftsmanship, this desktop calendar is a must-have for design enthusiasts and those who appreciate the perfect blend of form and function.
