TTMM for Pebble is not just about aesthetics; it's about functionality. The watchfaces display not only time but also date, week day, steps, activity time, distance, temperature in the user's city, and battery or Bluetooth status. Users can customize the type of information displayed and access additional data with a simple shake of the wrist. The design is a testament to Salamon's belief that the new e-paper technology provides a priceless opportunity to invent new forms for the 21st century era.
The design process involved meticulous planning and execution. Salamon used Adobe Illustrator for designing the collection, while fonts for the watchfaces were prepared with Type Tool 3. All bitmaps were edited in Adobe Photoshop, and programming was done with Pebble SDK and XCODE. The binary apps for Pebble range from 50Kb to 550 Kb, reflecting the varying complexity of the designs.
Despite the low resolution of the Pebble smartwatch's screen (144×168 pixels), Salamon managed to create designs that are readable in both good and poor light conditions. He achieved this by using pixel-perfect graphics and fonts, and by avoiding unnecessary animations to preserve battery life. Some designs even express the metaphor that life needs energy, as seen in MOMENTTMM.
TTMM for Pebble is a collaborative effort. Alongside Albert Salamon, the design team included programmers Artur Salamon, Elijah Kang, and Gregoire Sage. The project, which started in March 2016 and finished in March 2017, was carried out in Warsaw, Poland, with programmers working from France and the USA.
In conclusion, TTMM for Pebble represents a significant step forward in smartwatch interface design. Its blend of functionality and aesthetics, coupled with its unique approach to information display, sets it apart from mainstream designs that mimic mechanical clocks and classic LCD screens. It's a design that truly embraces the potentials of new technology, paving the way for future innovations in the field.
