Canela: A Fusion of Elegance and Comfort

What sets Canela apart is its unique blend of form and function. The armchair is designed to be both comfortable and visually striking. The designers have introduced copper against the dark wood, creating a visually appealing contrast that sets it apart from conventional furniture designs.

The creation of Canela involved traditional woodworking methods. The armchair was handmade from solid hardwoods, combining traditional joinery with modern minimal design to create functional yet interesting details. The result is a piece of furniture that is not only comfortable but also aesthetically pleasing.

With dimensions of 715mm in width, 733mm in depth, and 797mm in height, Canela is versatile in its usage. The armchair's dimensions allow it to be used in various ways, accommodating the body in both normal and side-on sitting positions.

The design process of Canela was a meticulous one. The designers conducted extensive research on dimensions to achieve the highest degree of comfort. Various angles were considered for a range of seating positions before settling on the optimum setup. The project was conceived and realized in Paraty, Brazil in 2017.

Despite the challenges posed by the joinery, the designers were able to maintain a delicate structure to achieve a light and minimal appearance. The use of finger joints and wedged mortise and tenons not only provided Canela with a rigid and highly resistant structure but also added interesting and attractive details to the design.

Canela's design excellence was recognized with a Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
