Strolling in the Woods: A Guild Hall Design by Ying-Hsin Chen

An Oasis of Spirit in the Metropolitan Desert

The design establishes an oasis of spirit in the metropolitan desert. By blurring the boundary between indoors and outdoors, the design integrates people, the space, the building, and the natural environment. Strolling in the space, the visitors were as if summoned by the forest, feeling extremely free.

The reception center designed under the concept of the symbiosis of man and nature forms the image of “strolling in the woods” through the materials such as wood, rocks, iron, glass, hemp ropes, etc. The design overcomes the difficulties of growing plants indoors by taking advantage of technology. It defines areas of different purposes with penetrating screens to create space for multiple purposes and eliminate material boundary between indoors and outdoors.

This unique design by Ying-Hsin Chen stands out for its ability to seamlessly blend the natural and built environment. The use of organic materials such as wood and rocks, combined with modern elements like iron and glass, creates a harmonious and inviting atmosphere. The incorporation of hemp ropes adds a touch of rustic charm, further enhancing the connection to nature.

One of the design's key strengths lies in its ability to overcome the challenges of indoor plant growth. Through innovative technology, the space is transformed into a lush green environment, evoking the feeling of being surrounded by a vibrant forest. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also contributes to the well-being of visitors, providing a sense of tranquility and rejuvenation.

Furthermore, the design cleverly defines areas of different purposes using penetrating screens. This allows for the creation of versatile spaces that can adapt to various activities and events. The elimination of material boundaries between indoors and outdoors creates a seamless flow, inviting visitors to explore and engage with the surroundings.

Recognizing its excellence, Strolling in the Woods has been honored with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This award acknowledges the design's outstanding creativity and ingenuity, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life. By incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology, this design exemplifies the potential of human creativity to create spaces that inspire and uplift.
