The design concept was inspired by the event's mission to discover new fashion stars. The visitor's journey began with a 3.5m high exploding star-like sculpture at the entrance. This glowing sculpture, made from metal hollow sections and recycled after the event, was subtly reassembled into different configurations throughout the exhibition space, providing a versatile backdrop for the various fashion brands.
The Starlight Transform concept was not only visually striking but also environmentally conscious. The design team aimed to minimize onsite wastage by avoiding heavy wooden structures. Instead, they used lightweight reusable aluminium systems and stretched vinyl covering for the walls. Biodegradable carpets were also used, and all lights sourced were LED. This sustainable approach to design was both practical and in line with contemporary environmental concerns.
The exhibition space was meticulously planned to guide visitors through an immersive journey. Inside the exhibition hall, a fragmented gridded tunnel led visitors towards a 10m radius open circular space. This open arena, marked by two floating white discs elevated at 4m high, served as the hub for various fashion shows, cocktail receptions, and trend forums.
The design of the Centrestage Hong Kong 2016 was a testament to the power of abstract design in creating a unique spatial experience. The design team faced the challenge of accommodating a multitude of varied fashion brands while uplifting the overall ambiance of the event space. Their solution, the Starlight Transform concept, dissected a star shape into many structural variations, creating a cohesive yet versatile design language.
This innovative approach to exhibition space design was recognized with the Golden A' Event and Happening Design Award in 2018. The award celebrates marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology. The Starlight Transform concept undoubtedly embodied these qualities, significantly impacting the world of fashion exhibition design with its extraordinary excellence.
