CityWood: A New Dimension in Art

Hubert Roguski's Award-Winning 3D Wooden City Maps

CityWood, a unique artwork by Hubert Roguski, brings city maps to life in a three-dimensional wooden design. This innovative piece, which merges modern technology with traditional craftsmanship, has been recognized with a prestigious A' Design Award.

CityWood is a wooden map artwork that represents city streets, water, and landscape through separate wooden layers. The design is inspired by actual cities, and the intricate street patterns, cut into the wood, resemble minimalist modern abstract art. The result is a stunning 3D representation of a cityscape, showcasing the beauty of urban design in a new and engaging way.

The uniqueness of CityWood lies in its combination of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship. Each layer of the design is precisely cut using laser technology, a process that brings a high level of detail and accuracy to the artwork. The layers are then assembled by hand, adding a personal touch to each piece. The use of wood, a natural material with its own unique patterns, adds an additional layer of uniqueness to each artwork.

The creation of CityWood was not without its challenges. Roguski faced a long battle between the wood and the city pattern, creating many prototypes to find the perfect balance of width and depth for each street. The color of the wood for each layer was also carefully chosen to ensure the design was readable and visible as a city map.

CityWood is the brainchild of Hubert Roguski, an architect with a long-standing interest in maps and Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. His passion for maps and his desire to transform them into a three-dimensional object led to the creation of CityWood. His dedication to the project and his innovative approach to design were recognized when CityWood was awarded the Golden A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award in 2018.

CityWood is more than just a piece of artwork. It is a testament to the beauty of urban design, the potential of modern technology, and the enduring appeal of traditional craftsmanship. Whether displayed in a living room, dining room, or office space, CityWood brings a touch of urban sophistication to any setting.
