Karoba: A Fusion of Oriental and Mediterranean Cuisine

Handcrafted Design Elements and Persian Aesthetics

The design of Karoba Restaurant stands out with its handcrafted copper countertops and intricate mirror work. This attention to detail sets it apart from other restaurants in Tehran, creating a truly one-of-a-kind space. Despite the challenges posed by the building's unconventional layout and lack of proper restaurant equipment and air-conditioning, the design team overcame these obstacles through innovative solutions.

Employing high-tech and industrial design principles, Karoba Restaurant incorporates a variety of materials and elements. Copper is used for the countertops, while natural stone is used for the wash basins. Antique sewing machines serve as the foots for the basins, adding a touch of nostalgia. Concrete columns, silver leaves for the entrance gate, and iron tread plates for the stairs further contribute to the overall aesthetic.

With a split-leveled 250 square meter commercial space, Karoba Restaurant provides a luxurious dining experience. The design is focused on creating a space that respects its guests, using premium materials and carefully curated lighting to enhance the ambiance.

The planning phase for Karoba Restaurant began in December 2016, with execution commencing a month later and concluding in February 2017. Throughout the design process, Alireza Shafiei Tabar conducted extensive research, ensuring that the design stood apart from other food and beverage concepts in the area. Photography and direct observation were used to build a comprehensive database of inspiration and ideas.

The fusion of various design styles in Karoba Restaurant required a creative approach to avoid an inharmonious combination. Alireza Shafiei Tabar successfully integrated oriental and Mediterranean influences with Persian aesthetics, resulting in a design that is both visually stunning and functional.

Karoba Restaurant was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2018 for its exceptional interior space, retail, and exhibition design. This prestigious award recognizes designs that are well-crafted, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The design of Karoba Restaurant not only provides a fulfilling dining experience but also contributes to a better world through its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics.
