Unveiling KaiMon Taiwan Tea House: A Blend of Art and Nature

SU WAN LING's Award-Winning Design Celebrates Taiwan's Tea Culture

Immerse yourself in the world of SU WAN LING's KaiMon Taiwan Tea House, a design that embodies the essence of Taiwan's rich tea culture. This article explores the inspiration, unique properties, and realization technology of this spring tea gift box, which won the Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2018.

The inspiration for the KaiMon Taiwan Tea House, as explained by the designer, SU WAN LING, is to evoke a warm, nest-like feeling, akin to "opening a door" - the meaning of "KaiMon" in Chinese. The design pays homage to Taiwan, the birthplace of deluxe tea, with its products made from high-quality tea from different natural environments. The varying terrains and climates of Taiwan lend unique flavors to the tea, making each brew a distinct experience. The colors and textures of the box symbolize the arrival of spring and express gratitude towards the forest and tea plants.

What sets this design apart is its unique properties. The outer layer of the box uses Chinese ink and wash rendering to depict the passion for the mountain, while geometric shapes represent the mountain's toughness. Soft colors capture the warmth of spring. The design also leverages the diverse features of shapes and textures to portray the beauty of nature and the memory of home.

The realization technology of the design is rooted in natural features, including spring wind, dew, and sunlight. The box contains three smaller boxes for different tea and tea cakes, which can be arranged according to the user's needs. The drawer box design not only reduces printing and cost but also aligns with the concept of environmental protection.

The technical specifications of the design include a width of 90mm, depth of 300mm, and height of 60mm. The rounded paper design for the boxes reduces the printing process and maintains an eco-friendly approach. The design tags associated with this project include Packaging, Gift, Tea, Taiwan, ink, and wash.

The project, which began in February 2016 in Taipei, was completed in August 2016 in the same city. The design encapsulates the warmth of "opening a door and coming home" and pays tribute to Taiwan, the homeland of high-quality tea. The use of clean geometric shapes represents the toughness of the mountain, while wash colors symbolize the vibrant life of spring. The design also incorporates three elements of mountains: wind, water, and sun.

Photographer and illustrator SU WAN LING holds the copyrights to this design. The design was awarded the Silver A' Packaging Design Award in 2018, a prestigious accolade given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
