Revolutionizing Business Spaces: The Mix of Sunlight and Plants

Designers Jolin Wang and Chia-Jui Hsu's Innovative Approach to Cooperative Space Design

The design was inspired by the idea of a technology tree, symbolizing the combination of technology and humanity. The building is located at the outskirts of Taipei Neihu Technology Park, an area composed of old residences and new business buildings. The design plan focuses on creating a green building that faces east, west, and north, with an activity space that appeals to energy saving and connects two halls flooded with sunlight.

What sets this design apart is its interaction with the surrounding environment. At the cross of two main roads, a small plaza is built based on the idea of recess and turning around, providing a space for people to linger and engage in activities. This is where the building interacts harmoniously with its surroundings.

To achieve the effect of environmental afforestation on a vertical scale, a convex balcony is added every four floors. This allows for numerous plantings, combining practical function with attractive appearance. The concept of a "tree" is applied extensively on the building's exterior, with plantings, trunk-shaped balconies, leaf-shaped night lights, leaf shelters on the ground-floor corridor, and walls artistically decorated with trunks.

The building, covering an area of 580 square meters, was completed in May 2016. Despite the challenges faced, such as the top floor furnished with double floor slabs and 140-meter soil for arbors, the design team managed to create a space where people can take breaks at work. The result is a building that not only serves its practical function but also contributes to the aesthetics of the urban space.

This design has been recognized for its innovation and excellence, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2018. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, strong technical characteristics, and splendid artistic skill. The Mix of Sunlight and Plants is indeed a testament to Jolin Wang and Chia-Jui Hsu's remarkable design skills and their commitment to creating spaces that combine technology and humanity.
