Krishnanilaya: A Unique Blend of Rustic Luxury and Minimalistic Sophistication

A Residential Apartment Designed by Rahul Mistri

Every room in this residential project has been crafted with the sole intention of fulfilling a simple, organic lifestyle. Designed for a working couple and their 2-year-old son, the 2-BHK apartment is rustic yet luxurious, sophisticated yet minimalistic, modern yet vintage. Its transformation from a bare shell to a unique blend of design elements was a long-down process, but the result is a family home that draws inspiration from flowers and their vivid hues. It displays a mix of customized and locally-sourced materials and furniture, and is anchored by its ability to cut off from chaos.

This 2BHK apartment, named Krishnanilaya, presents a unique portfolio of carefully crafted and beautifully styled décor. Conceptualized as a three-lettered word - JOY, it becomes a medium of expression for the thoughts of its inhabitants. The entire design scheme has been influenced by flowers and their colors, in sync with the overall décor. The key element that ties the décor scheme together is the floral theme, which has the ability to instantly bring a sophisticated and glamorous touch to any space.

The spatial planning of Krishnanilaya brings the beauty of nature indoors, while transporting comfort to all spaces by means of a simplistic, minimal approach. The plan comprises a living room, a small kitchen adjacent to it, a master bedroom, and a room for the kid, with balconies adjoining all rooms. The design was practically curated, with comfort being the primary aim of the interiors.

The materials used in Krishnanilaya include brick walls, teakwood slats finished in melamine matt, MS library finished in color PU, kitchen platform finished in solid quartz, kitchen storage finished in color PU, and doors cladded in veneer and finished in melamine matt polish. The furniture and décor have been designed and customized specially for the project, adding a personal touch to the space.

The design of Krishnanilaya was not without its challenges. Addressing the client’s urge for romance, faces, and parijat, the Radha Krishna mural elegantly renders the love of Radha and Krishna, which is symbolic of eternal love. Inspired by the remnants of colors on a wall during the festival of Holi, the composition of this mural has been done deftly, taking into consideration the subtle-sensitivity of a poet, the ruthless intellect of an artist, and the soft heart of the beloved in order to enter into the enchanted realm of mysticism.

Completed in June 2017 in Mumbai, India, Krishnanilaya is a testament to the power of design to create a home that reflects the inner world of its inhabitants. It is a place of joy, comfort, and beauty, where nature and design come together to create a unique and captivating living space.
