The inspiration for this project came from the bustling downtown alley where it is located. During the day, the beige gray workshop blends in with the surroundings, subtly calm. But as night falls, it transforms into a bright stage, emitting a proactive vitality that contrasts with the quiet dim streets. The workshop's transformation is facilitated by a revolving door, which creates a flow of rays and lights, adding to the nighttime vitality.
What sets this design apart is its unique use of space. The project begins with a large terrace and a central revolving door, which is in charge of spatial expansion and coherence. This arrangement presents a continuity of sun & air and visual banquet & imagination, amplifying and managing a flowing sense of space. The design effectively divides the chamber into meeting and task zones, creating a multilayer effect in the holistic design.
The realization of this design is achieved through the use of concise lines and cement, which together render a fine texture. The entrance façade features a glass door with a diameter of two meters, creating a visual effect relative to the cement wall. The door rotates in a perfect circle track on the ground using a thick metal door frame, adding to the visual appeal.
The project was not without its challenges. The original structure of the building was parallel to the opposite bevel edge, which made it difficult to separate the upright and foursquare areas. To overcome this, the design extended the indoor cabinet from inside to outside and rationally applied the construction structure corner. This integration retained a neat comfortable visual impression while overcoming the structural limit.
In conclusion, "Between the Movement and Stillness" is a testament to Cheng-Yuan Huang's innovative approach to interior design. The project showcases his ability to transform a small downtown alley into a stage of fine design, using space, light, and material in unique ways. The project has earned him the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, a testament to his outstanding expertise and innovation.
