Stacking Blocks: An Elevated Villa Experience

Moek Mo and Tse-Ming Chen's Award-Winning Residential Design

Stacking Blocks, a unique residential design by Moek Mo and Tse-Ming Chen, redefines the concept of modular living. Inspired by the idea of an "elevated villa", this design presents a desirable architectural solution for city life.

Unlike traditional modular residences, Stacking Blocks requires less construction and eliminates the concept of regular floors. The design's unique properties include large floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook a meticulously curated garden adorned with bamboos, pebbles, lawns, and animal-style artworks. This outdoor space, coupled with the building's interior, creates an elegant and serene atmosphere that echoes Zen characteristics.

The exterior of the building features a piling-up structure decorated with grey bricks and timbers, subtly reducing any sense of oppression. Inside, the foyer is decorated with timbers, fostering a natural atmosphere. Traditional tatami, tables, and sofas further enhance the dignified Zen aesthetic.

Constructed in New Taipei City, Taiwan, and completed in May 2017, the Stacking Blocks residence spans 1640 square meters. Each floor features independent gardening, complete with bushes, wood floors, illuminations, and water and electricity facilities. These elements come together to symbolize a joyful life.

Despite the challenges of creating a unique residential design that deviates from the norm, Moek Mo and Tse-Ming Chen successfully delivered an exquisite design plan. Their innovative approach to residential architecture has not gone unnoticed. In 2018, Stacking Blocks was awarded Silver in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award, a prestigious accolade that recognizes top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs.

In conclusion, Stacking Blocks is more than just a residential design. It is a testament to Moek Mo and Tse-Ming Chen's innovation and expertise in the field of design. By reimagining the concept of modular living, they have presented a new, desirable solution for urban living, one that combines aesthetics, functionality, and a touch of Zen.
