Corporativo Financiero Tlalpan: A Vanguard in Corporate Architecture

Gerardo Broissin's Award-Winning Design Blends Sustainability and Functionality

Gerardo Broissin's Corporativo Financiero Tlalpan stands as a testament to innovative architecture, harmonizing environmental consciousness with modern corporate needs. This article explores the unique features and inspirations behind this groundbreaking design.

The Corporativo Financiero Tlalpan, a corporate building located in Tlalpan, Mexico, is a remarkable example of vanguard architecture. Gerardo Broissin, the mastermind behind the design, drew inspiration from the extraordinary line of trees in the middle of the plot. Instead of removing these trees, Broissin designed the building's main axis to exist harmoniously with the natural landscape. This decision also led to the innovative idea of raising the parking lot above ground, thereby improving air quality, natural light, and ventilation.

Broissin's design stands out due to its elegant volume and firm character. The structure's height allows for 1,143 positions on two floors, each spanning 6,000 m2. To ensure natural lighting for each user, the design incorporates four inner courtyards which also serve to section each department of the program. The building, made of steel, reinforced concrete, and glass, spans 55,000 sqm and can accommodate 1,446 cars.

The design process, which began with a groundbreaking ceremony in February 2016, was completed in October 2017. The project was envisioned based on the mandatory design phases of schematic design, development design, and construction documents. The team used Sketchup, a non-BIM software, to evaluate its benefits, intuitiveness, and ease of use for a large-scale project.

One of the main challenges faced by the design team was to accommodate 1,500 cars without negatively impacting the context. Another challenge was to provide uniform natural light for all users, including those in the middle of the building. This was resolved by creating four inner open plazas, which ensured satisfactory light continuity.

The Corporativo Financiero Tlalpan is not just a building, but a well-ordered volume with clean geometries that serves as a visual buffer and improves the flow of people within the corporate campus. It is a testament to Broissin's commitment to creating spaces that are not only functional but also contribute positively to the environment. This commitment was recognized when the design was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2018.
