2 in 1: A Redesign of Fitting Room Lock

A Convenient and Innovative Solution

2 in 1 is a fitting room lock that doubles as a doorknob and pothook. When you enter the fitting room, you can hang your clothes on the hanger provided and attach it to the 2 in 1 lock. The unique shape of 2 in 1 allows the hanger to combine with the lock, effectively locking the door. Once you remove the hanger, the doors can be easily opened again. This ingenious locking mechanism ensures that you never forget your belongings in the fitting room.

The design of 2 in 1 is not only convenient but also sustainable. It is made using alloy molding technology, ensuring durability and longevity. With dimensions of 40mm in width, 60mm in depth, and 100mm in height, 2 in 1 is compact yet functional.

The design team behind 2 in 1 consists of talented individuals from the Industrial Design College in LAFA, including Li Mengjie, Du Heli, Li Mengxuan, Sun Kaiqiang, Chen Mo, Wang Wanting, and Wang Tingting.

Operating 2 in 1 is simple. First, hang the hanger on the lock, effectively locking the door. Second, the door remains locked while you try on your clothes. Finally, remove the hanger to unlock the door and exit the fitting room. The unique modeling design of 2 in 1 allows for easy installation, making it a convenient choice for fitting room doors.

The project to develop 2 in 1 started in April 2016 at the LAFA Communal Facility Design Studio and was completed in August 2017 at the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Industrial Design in LAFA.

The design of 2 in 1 was inspired by the need for a better solution for fitting room locks and the problem of forgettable belongings. By combining the functionalities of a pothook and a door locker, the design team created a unique and innovative solution.

The design process for 2 in 1 was not without its challenges. Initially, finding a balance between appearance and functionality proved difficult. However, through numerous sketches and discussions, the design team was able to find the perfect selection that achieved the desired effect.

2 in 1 has received recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Social Design category in 2018. This prestigious award is given to designs that are well-designed, practical, and innovative, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The 2 in 1 design is respected for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings while contributing to a better world.
