The inspiration for the House of Light came from the moist and rainy weather of Yilan. Cheng-Yu Yang utilized rosewood extensively throughout the villa, adorning the front gate grilles, doors, large tables, and staircases. The floors, decorated with wood-grain bricks, exude elegance while also being convenient for maintenance.
What sets the House of Light apart is its unique spiral staircase that connects every floor. The black handrails contrast beautifully with the illuminations installed underneath the staircase, creating a stunning visual effect that underscores the beauty of light. This consistent use of grey throughout the villa sets off a magnificent atmosphere, further enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the space.
The villa's design also prioritizes privacy without compromising on visual appeal. The rosewood grilles, widely used in the villa, offer visual penetration while ensuring privacy. The modern building, adorned with fair-faced concrete and glass, shines brilliantly, adding to the overall allure of the design.
One of the key features of the House of Light is its interaction with the surrounding environment. The pillars in the hall space separate the living and dining room, where glittering glass screens create a sense of visual security. From the dining room, residents can enjoy the outdoor scenery through the glass curtains, while the outdoor view offers a glimpse of the grand dining table and spiral staircase.
The House of Light, spanning 1100 square meters, was completed in December 2017. Despite the challenges of creating a design style using distinct materials, Cheng-Yu Yang successfully demonstrated aesthetic proficiency in construction and materials, elevating the state of space to the highest level.
In conclusion, the House of Light is a testament to Cheng-Yu Yang's innovative approach to residential design. By harmoniously blending architecture with nature and utilizing light to enhance the beauty of the space, Cheng-Yu Yang has created a luxurious villa that is not only visually stunning but also functional and comfortable. The House of Light is indeed a deserving winner of the prestigious Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award.
