The inspiration behind the Magician stems from research indicating that alternating between sitting and standing can alleviate occupational diseases caused by prolonged sitting, such as cervical and lumbar pain. The Magician allows users to easily adjust to multiple heights, promoting a change in work posture and subsequently improving work efficiency.

What sets the Magician apart from other desks is its unique property of adjusting height based on the user's work posture and state. This adjustment is entirely gesture-controlled, eliminating the need for extra buttons and aligning with people's natural operation habits. The desk also features a smart lamp system that provides appropriate lighting for different working conditions. Moreover, an infrared sensor on the desktop control module detects the user's sitting posture, preventing body aches due to poor sitting posture.

The Magician utilizes infrared ranging sensing technology for sitting position sensing and infrared gesture recognition technology for precise gesture control. The desk, measuring 1200 mm x 700 mm x 750 mm, also employs a 3D engraving process to make it more suitable for supporting the arm.

The project, which started in Guangzhou in October 2017 and completed in December 2017, will be on display in Shanghai in September 2018. The design team, led by Junfeng Wu, faced challenges in creating an accurate gesture control system and a high-precision sitting position sensor. However, their efforts have resulted in a product that not only improves work efficiency but also promotes better health among users.
